"God can trust us with true riches (spiritual) if we are faithful in handling less important issues such as money. (Luke 16:11). Money has beguilding power. It seems the more we get the more we want! Jesus is teaching us that our willingness to bring money under control is necessary for our spiritual development. We are either controlling money or it is controlling us.
In Luke 16:12 there is an indirect reference to the issue of debt. Debt means that we are dealing with that which is not our own. We are not to owe anyone anything but love (Romans 13:8). A simple stewardship formula is to pay God (give), pay yourself (save), pay your bills. Being trustworthy in these matters opens the door to greater spiritual wealth." - Clark Whitten B.S., M. Managing Money (Proverbs 27:23-27)
"We either manage money or it will manage us. Solomon, known for his wisdom and wealth recorded five timeless principles of money management in Proverbs:
1) Accounting (Proverbs 27:23). "know the state of your flocks" refers to diligence in record keeping. In modern times, this means keeping track of what we own, owe, earn, and spend.
2) Planning (Proverbs 21:5). Planning how we will spend money is essential to good stewardship. Planned spending brings satisfaction, but "impulse buying" can have devastating consequences.
3) Saving (Proverbs 21:20) The idea of "treasure" in the house of the wise implies that resources have been saved and will be available when we need them.
4) Contentment (Proverbs 15:16) We are deceived if we think having more riches or pleasure will make us happy. Scripture encourages us to enjoy what we have now without desiring to get more. (Philippians 4:11; Hebrews 13:5)
5) Giving (Proverbs 3:9, 10) Honoring God with the first fruits of our income and resources establishes His reign in our lives and begins a divine cycle of blessing." - Clark Whitten B.S., M. Div Divine Principles of Money Management
(see Mathew 6:25-34/Luke 16:10-12)
Proverbs 27:23-27 23 Be diligent to know the state of your flocks, And attend to your herds; 24 For riches are not forever, Nor does a crown endure to all generations. 25 When the hay is removed, and the tender grass shows itself, And the herbs of the mountains are gathered in, 26 the lambs will provide your clothing, And the goats the price of a field; 27 You shall have enough goats' milk for your food, For the food of your household, And the mountains of your maidservants.
Abundance Is Not Our Point Of Trust Gods Abundance
"Philippians 4:12,13 Let this scripture be our guiding light to understanding Gods will on the subject of prosperity. It tells us YES (we can have riches), and NO (do not trust in them). With the mind of Christ (see Phil 2:1-5) we will never become high minded if blessed with wealth. Here is the assurance that if our lives are geared toward the Word of God, then, through Christ, we can experience either financial wealth or temporary setback, but we will still be steadfast in our living, all because our trust will be only in Him. If the economy were to dissolve tomorrow, Gods people would not be rendered inoperative, because God is our source. He can keep us through times of scarcity as well as in time of plenty. He fed Elijah by sending ravens to bring him food in the morning and evening (1Kings 17:2-6). God can do that now. He is the same today as He was then." - F.K.C.P.
